Reveal Data Scientist Wins Prestigious Research Award
We are thrilled to announce that Nicole Cabrera has been named a 2025 Burns “Bud” Roper Fellow by the American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), supporting her participation in the 80th Annual AAPOR Conference taking place from May 14-16, 2025, in St. Louis, MO. The Burns "Bud" Roper Fellow Award is named for the late Burns "Bud" Roper who provided a substantial bequest in his will to endow the fund. Roper Fellows are people who work in any sector of survey research or public opinion research, who work in relatively isolated settings, and who are in the early stages of their careers. In addition to being a data scientist at Reveal, Nicky is a PhD student in the Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior Program at the University of South Carolina. Her research interests center around the intersection of culture, social determinants of health, and health disparities.
Nicky says of the award: “I am incredibly honored to receive the Burns “Bud” Roper Fellow Award. While my career in data science and public opinion research is just beginning, this award affirms my commitment to leveraging data to explore lived experiences and inform decision-making. It also provides me an opportunity to grow within a community that values methodical rigor and social impact.”
She is a co-author of two papers that will be presented at the upcoming AAPOR conference in May: one on AI Translation, which she will present, and a second on the development of quality control methods for the American Community Survey Autocoder, which Yezzi Lee will present. Stay tuned for more information about the topics and insights the Reveal team will be presenting.
Congratulations, Nicky! Reveal is proud of this huge accomplishment and will be cheering you on at the conference. The full list of 2025 AAPOR award winners can be found here.
