From Learning to Impact: Reveal’s 2026 Summer Internship Program
Reveal’s fifth cohort of interns recently concluded their summer internships. This summer, our seven talented interns moved beyond the classroom and applied their skills to projects across many fields. Working alongside their mentors at Reveal, the interns explored challenges ranging from geospatial analysis and healthcare analytics to internal operations and strategic communications. The program combined hands-on project experience with professional development, collaboration, and opportunities to learn more about careers across the organization.
Below are highlights of our interns and their projects:
Applying Geospatial Data to Housing Challenges
Aaroh Patel developed a geospatial approach for identifying potential additional dwelling units (ADU) by combining imagery, parcel data, zoning information, and other geospatial features. His work explored how multiple sources of evidence could be brought together to identify properties likely to contain ADUs and establish a foundation for future machine learning applications. By improving how these housing units can be identified, this type of approach could help create a more complete picture of the housing landscape and strengthen the data used for planning, research, and decision making.
From his mentor, Samuel Alter, “Working with Aaroh for the summer was a very rewarding experience - certainly and most importantly for him, as he got exposure to real research and development work that we do at Reveal as well as getting exposed to new ways of collecting and analyzing data. For me, it was a great opportunity to mentor a very capable colleague through a project towards completion. We both learned a lot and I'm excited to watch Aaroh's career take off!”

Building More Intuitive Digital Tools
Amanda Wang developed an interactive calendar tool designed to streamline the tracking of milestones, deadlines, and other time-sensitive information. Her work transformed data from Excel into monthly, weekly, and daily calendar views while incorporating interactive features and visual indicators to create a more intuitive user experience. By turning a manual process into a more centralized and accessible workflow, the tool demonstrates how this technology can help users manage complex information efficiently and quickly identify what requires attention.
From her mentor, Pavani Samala, “Being a mentor through Reveal's internship program was a wonderful opportunity to give back to students who are looking to build their careers. Amanda came with the curiosity to learn and drive to create an impact, so guiding her through challenges, project requirements, and client relationships was a rewarding experience!”
Exploring Higher-Resolution Data for Agriculture
Cole Dwiggins developed a proof of concept exploring whether higher-resolution vegetation monitoring could help reduce basis risk in crop insurance. He compared traditional vegetation and rainfall indexes with higher-resolution satellite and biomass data to assess which approaches could more accurately capture periods of vegetation loss. He found that more precise measurements could help better align insurance indicators with actual conditions on the ground, reducing the risk that agricultural losses go unrecognized by broader environmental indexes.
From his mentor, Taylor J. Wilson, “Working with talented students like Cole is a privilege because they bring new ideas from the universities to bear on the challenges we face as a firm. This summer, Cole was faced with a project that touched all the stages of a project’s development—identifying the opportunity, networking with key players, developing the solution, and communicating that solution.”
Using Analytics to Support Healthcare Fraud Detection
Dharmik Rathod developed a healthcare provider risk-scoring framework to help identify potential fraud, waste, and abuse. Using a Bayesian Random Mixed Effects Model, he analyzed provider and service-level data to identify higher-risk billing patterns and explored the factors contributing to individual risk scores. By narrowing large volumes of provider data into a more targeted group for review, the approach could help investigators prioritize resources and focus attention where additional examination may be most valuable.
From his mentor, Pooja Vanju, “Mentoring Dharmik has been a rewarding experience. He is technically strong, asked the right questions at every step, and delivered a complete end-to-end project from data cleaning and model building to an interactive dashboard. What impressed me most was that his model identified a provider already exclusion list without ever being given that information. For a summer intern, this was exceptional work.”

Understanding Barriers to Survey Participation
Edwin Zheng developed a dashboard using survey paradata to better understand households that may require additional outreach during data collection. He analyzed contact attempts, interview outcomes, refusal information, and other survey-process data to understand how barriers can overlap and affect survey completion. Identifying where these barriers compound could help improve data collection efforts and support more complete and representative survey results.
From his mentor, Nicole Cabrera, “Working with interns is always a great and fulfilling experience, and working with Edwin was no exception. I worked with him through Rutgers’ SEED2S+X program and through Reveal’s summer internship, and it has been amazing seeing his growth over the past several months. It was rewarding to watch him become more confident and independent in his work, and I’m excited to see where his path takes him.”
Supporting the Operations Behind the Work
Max Burkhardt supported accounting and operational activities across Reveal, gaining hands-on experience with expenses, invoices, timesheets, and financial processes. He also reviewed the development of internal tools and provided a user perspective on administrative workflows. His work contributed to the accuracy and organization of the processes that keep business operations moving while also helping identify opportunities to make internal tools more effective for the people who use them.
From his mentor, Nicholas DeCesaris, “Having the opportunity to be a mentor for Max this summer was such a rewarding experience. He brought a fresh perspective and versatile skill set to our team, making valuable contributions across a multitude of areas. His willingness to learn and support our team made a positive impact not only on the work but on me as well.”
Turning Technical Work into Stories
Tyler Story helped translate Reveal’s work into content for broader audiences. Throughout the summer, he supported social media content, podcast development, and branding initiatives. His work helped create new ways to make complex technical ideas more accessible, strengthen how Reveal communicates its capabilities, and build more consistent approaches for sharing the people and innovation behind the work.
From his mentor, Nisha Galione, "One of the most rewarding aspects of leadership is helping emerging professionals develop their skills and confidence. Tyler embraced every opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow, leaving a positive impact on both our team and the projects he supported. He was an integral part of our team this summer, and his contributions will continue to shine and make an impact even after the program is over.”
Beyond the project
Beyond their project work, interns participated in professional development sessions designed to build skills they can carry into their careers. Throughout the summer, sessions focused on public speaking, elevator pitches, visual storytelling, career pathways, and other practical workplace skills. These opportunities gave interns a chance to step outside of their day-to-day projects, learn from Reveal team members, and build confidence communicating their ideas and experiences.

While each intern approached a different challenge, their projects reflected a common goal of our internship program: give emerging professionals a meaningful opportunity to apply their skills and explore new ideas. Demo Day marked the conclusion of their summer at Reveal, but the projects, skills, and relationships developed throughout the program extend beyond a single presentation.
